Mr Paul Banwell, internationally known Plastic Surgeon, is delighted to be one of the first surgeons in the UK to pioneer tissue preservation cosmetic breast surgery.
As a surgeon-scientist and global thought leader, he always wants to improve patient care and communication and find ways to optimise and finesse surgical techniques.
Ultimately this leads to a faster recovery, improved outcomes and a better patient experience.
What is Tissue preservation breast surgery?
Tissue preservation breast surgery aims to include minimal access approaches and preservation of tissues without cutting muscle or blood vessels with the benefit of faster recovery, less pain and the ability to perform surgery under local anaesthetic and sedation (rather than with a general anaesthetic).
Tissue preservation breast surgery in the UK has primarily been made possible by introducing innovative (and patented) instrumentation which allows ‘controlled spacing’ via the expansion of tissues in a minimally traumatic way.
In a breast enhancement procedure specifically, a non-traumatic ‘pocket’ or space is created, which preserves the breast anatomy and avoids damage to the circum-mammary ligament, which is a special structure within the breast that helps maintain shape and structure.
The creation of this controlled space has also led to the term ‘nesting concept’, where the breast implant sits in a snug fashion.
The key point here is that this approach is thought to provide greater stability for an implant with less long-term movement.
Mia Femtech revolutionises tissue preservation breast surgery
The primary tissue preservation technique available is the Mia Femtech procedure introduced by Motiva.
This truly represents an exciting advance in breast aesthetics for those women wishing to increase their breast size by 1-2 cup sizes and create the effect otherwise achieved by a padded bra or push-up bra.
This is an intelligent choice for intelligent and often very busy women who would like minimal disruption to their lifestyle.
This Mia Femtech technique combines a scarless breast approach with balloon dissection and a special innovative diamond-shaped (biconvex) breast implant which is inserted into the breast using an injector device.
Preservé minimal-scar breast augmentation
Dr Banwell also specialises in an infra-mammary, minimal scar tissue preservation breast augmentation technique using tissue expansion, the nesting concept and the latest generation Motiva Joy implants, termed Preservé.
This technique also uses innovative instrumentation and can be performed under a general or local anaesthetic with sedation.
The beauty of this technique is that it uses the benefits of tissue preservation philosophies while allowing patients to have a wider choice of implant sizes.
Intelligent Choices for Intelligent Women
Tissue preservation concepts represent an important shift in our approach to aesthetic breast surgery.
The immensely positive responses from these philosophies have elevated our understanding of what women want and increased our desire to offer our patients as much choice as possible.
Mr Banwell has already pioneered minimal scar techniques in the UK, and we have many very happy patients who love this approach.
However, we are one of the few practices in the world to offer the choice of minimal scar ‘traditional’ breast augmentation, hybrid(composite) breast augmentation with fat transfer, and tissue preservation breast augmentation with Mia Femtech and Preservé approaches.
If you would like further information on these options, please do not hesitate to contact the clinic and book a visit with Dr Banwell to start your journey!
