Wrinkle Treatments

Rhytides

Wrinkles (rhytids) are natural creases or folds in the skin which typically appear as we naturally age. They are also caused as a result of sun damage, smoking, stress, poor hydration and habitual facial expressions. Sadly, wrinkles and having bags under the eyes are practically inevitable but some are preventable and there are many medical grade anti-wrinkle creams and treatments available that work to help minimise their appearance. Mr Banwell and his team can advise on products from the Rationale Skin Care range.

Avoiding sun exposure and applying high protection sunscreen from an early age are the classic treatments that will help to reduce wrinkling in later life. Anti-Ageing serums or topical cosmeceuticals applied daily will also help reduce wrinkles and lessen further formation.

However, one of the mainstays for treating wrinkles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles is botulinum toxin. Botox is a highly effective remedy for treating Dynamic lines (wrinkles caused by muscular activity) and is probably the most well known wrinkle treatment (see below). Injectable dermal fillers, eg. Juvederm, can be also used to add volume and lessen the appearance of wrinkled static lines (click here for link to dermal fillers page). Lastly, chemical peels, plasma shower and dermaroller (medical needling) are very effective in reducing and softening fine lines too.

Wrinkle Reducing Treatment

Botox® is one of the many trade names for botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin has been safely used in the medical profession for many years. Since the 1980’s Botox® has been used successfully in the field of aesthetic/cosmetic medicine. In cosmetic procedures a small amount of diluted botulinum toxin enables deep controlled relaxation of muscles to smooth wrinkles and lines on the face. Botox® can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines over the upper part of the face such as the forehead, the glabella (frown lines between the eyes) and the lines around the outer corner of the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox is also commonly injected around the mouth, lips, neck, hands and eyelids.

Overview

As well as eyelid surgery and forehead lifting (brow lift), botox can best be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the outside of the eyes and between the eyebrows, offering professional remedies for crows feet and wrinkles of the side of the nose sometimes associated with smiling by paralysing certain muscles temporarily. Botox temporarily paralyses the muscle decreasing dynamic lines and used long term will minimise the production of stationary lines. Wrinkle reducing treatments such as botox is now commonplace and millions of treatments have been performed worldwide.

TIME OFF WORK

It is very rare to have an allergic reaction to botox. Occasionally bruising and swelling occur and this may take a week or so to improve.

Botox may spread to involve muscles of the face that were not intended to be the target, which may result in drooping of the eyelid. This will generally subside within two to three weeks, which Mr Banwell may review.

Please contact Mr Banwell’s office by phone or email for an immediate quote which also can be arranged to be sent to you. Mr Banwell also offers complimentary assessments with his Aesthetic Nurse Judi Critchard.

Cold packs may used to numb the area prior to the injection of Botox and minimise superficial bruising following treatment.

Result times vary from patient to patient and can sometimes take up to five days for the paralysis of the muscles to occur and for wrinkles to diminish. Any bruising can be helped with cold packs for a period of 48 hours.

Mr Banwell provides an excellent service in pre-operation information, as well as total expertise and attention to detail in surgery. He was very informative and helpful after care.  I received excellent and sympathetic nursing care and anaesthetist. Mr Banwell has a very helpful practice manager and assistant.  My eyes have regained an ‘openness’ similar to my younger years. I no longer look tired.  I would highly recommend Mr Banwell to anyone considering cosmetic surgery.

Just a note to say a big thank you for your professional expertise, your excellent care and your kindness towards me during my treatment.

Marilyn W.

You were very knowledgeable about every part of the procedure and that is why I chose you over any other surgeon/clinic. Nearly 5 years on and I am very pleased with the results of my operation and have had no problems and they look so natural and have built my confidence so much.

Sam M.

I had my brachioplasty in May and the surgery was very successful. The cosmetic appearance was quickly noticeable, with no complications arising from the procedure. I would certainly recommend Mr Paul Banwell and his team to all my friends, as they were extremely helpful and friendly.

Diana H.

I wanted to thank you for the work you have done on me. The results are really coming in to place and looking great!! I have recovered really well and it’s all down to your brilliant work.

Cheryl M.

From the welcome I got on my first visit to post-op consultations, the team were very friendly. Mr Banwell is undoubtedly the most professional and caring surgeon I could wish for. I have felt completely confident in his expertise, and am thrilled with the results. I would not hesitate – and indeed have – to recommend him to all my friends.
